I was an executive early on... til everyone realized I didn't have the skill set. I didn't admit it for some decades to myself...
Anyway, I'd like to add, I ran great meetings. Particularly brainstorming meetings... even if my executive abilites lacked, especially planning & finanances.
It may have been because the meetings were fairly structured? Agenda. One dept head at a time? Lots of discussion, but pretty much one at a time?
My tendency to remain silent in groups worked for me. I observed discussion. Threw out the occasional trenchant comment or question... Took a vote... then named the hill we were gonna conquer.
On the other hand... I had a stroke at 30, hospitalizatons, etc etc
